Shokan Sunrise

Jimi Hendrix - guitar, vocals
Billy Cox - bass
Mitch Mitchell - drums
Larry Lee - guitar
Jerry Valez - percussion
Juma Sultan - percussion

This is Jimi and the Gypsy Suns and Rainbows line-up jamming up at the "shokan house" (8/69, Shokan, NY) and at the Thinker Street Cinema (11/8/69, Woodstock, NY) preparing for Woodstock.

The sound quality is good. It doesn't sound like a produced, professional studio recording, but the instruments are well balanced, and the recording is quite clean.

The interesting thing about these sessions is that many of these jams or early fragments of songs never became full-fledged tunes, while others are well-known and loved my millions. Further, I've never seen any of this stuff on other boots, though I'm by far the most boot-experienced Jimi freak.

Some of these titles were made up by the people who put the cd together, denoted by an "*".
