Strategic Planning Process
In order to effectively fulfill its mission and define its future direction, the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) is initiating a strategic planning process that will help ME enhance its teaching and research programs, develop stronger relationships with the corporate community, and create a strategic path that will foster intellectual, scientific, and economic vitality. In developing a strategic plan, ME will strive to address some of the grand challenges facing humankind in the 21st century. Task forces in the five areas of:
- energy and transportation,
- human health,
- environment,
- undergraduate education, and
- graduate education
will critically review ME's strengths, identify areas of strategic opportunities, and analyze ME's needs to become a premier department in its focus areas. Task forces are charged to broadly seek input from all stakeholders in the department. ME invites stakeholders, including students, parents, alumni, industry and government leaders, to become involved in this process. During spring 2009, ME will provide multiple opportunities for stakeholders to learn about its research and education activities. The department is looking forward to connecting with and learning from its constituents. |
