I’m a sophomore majoring in Environmental Resources Engineering at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. I’m the secretary for the HSU Renewable Energy Student Union, a club dedicated to giving students hands-on experience with renewable energy technology. I also volunteer for the Schatz Energy Research Center, which is involved in hydrogen fuel cell research. After graduating from HSU, I hope to find a job related to renewable energy. I enjoy just about anything outdoors, including mountain biking, sailing, kayaking, and hiking.
Lee "Mickey" Clemon
I have been called Mickey since before I can remember. I have been heavily involved in Boy Scouts for nine years. The ideals behind Boy Scouts led me to join Delta Tau Delta Fraternity in order to assist in the development of good men. I love to play soccer. My older sister and I are very close. She is a Dietitian at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Deep conversations are the foundation of my friendships. I like to work when I work and play when I play. See y’all in June.
Lauren Colett
My name is Lauren Collett and I am a sophomore Physics and French double major at Gustavus Adolphus College. Originally, I am from Green Bay, Wisconsin where the Packers are nothing short of sacred. My interest in physics was heightened this year when Gustavus held the Nobel Conference with the subject of “Heating up the Energy Debate”. It inspired to contribute my knowledge of physics to the sustainable living cause, so naturally I am very excited about this internship! Physics aside, I love to play ultimate Frisbee and do most anything outside. I am also very intrigued by anything French.
Brianne Connizzo
I am currently a sophomore at Smith College working towards earning my Bachelors of Science in Engineering. I was born and raised in Northern, NJ, right across the Hudson from Manhattan. I have two brothers, wonderful parents, and many assorted pets. My main concentration right now is either biomedical or mechanical engineering. In the future I plan to continue my studies and eventually do research in biomechanical engineering, more specifically in orthopedics. I enjoy the little things in life, such as chocolate milk, music, movies, shopping, the beach, roller coasters, captain crunch, making t-shirts, swimming, flip flops, spring, thunderstorms, the discovery channel and of course spandex. I am also currently a collegiate athlete at the Division III level, playing libero on the volleyball team at Smith College.
Jeffrey Diebold
I am from Lehigh University and I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace engineering. I plan to go to grad school for aerospace engineering and then I hope to get a job at NASA or somewhere similar. I enjoy watching/playing sports especially hockey, hanging out with my friends, playing the piano and learning new things. At school I am a member of the Lehigh Aerospace Club, we are currently designing and building our own aircraft.
Jaimie Hamilton
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA I am definitely a California girl! I'm a senior studying Mechanical Engineering, at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I grew up with my sister (who is often confused as my twin) and parents, both British immigrants. I have been very fortunate to travel to much of the world throughout my life, including a summer abroad in Germany. I am an active member of an all female service organization at LMU, whose focus is the betterment of women and children.
Samuel Hickey
I will be a senior next year at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio where I am a mathematics major and economics minor. I am very interested in the applications of math and have a growing desire to discover overlap between math and economics. I grew up in Sammamish, Washington (a suburb of Seattle) where I spent the majority of my free time playing one sport or another, most often baseball or tennis. I continue loving and playing all types of sports and over the last year have found a new love for road biking. I am very excited for this summer’s research opportunity, meeting new people, and getting to know a new city.
Carolyn Horn
I was born in California, grew up in Tennessee, and now live in Terre Haute, Indiana. I'm a senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, majoring in ME with minors in EE and German. Outside of class I'm in College Democrats and hold offices in Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and Unity, Rose-Hulman's Gay-Straight Alliance. I like biking, knitting, playing Scrabble, shopping at vintage/thrift stores, and cooking Indian food. I have a deep love and respect for all Judd Apatow productions that don't have Will Ferrell in them, but my favorite movie of all time is the Wizard of Oz.
Christina Jones
I am a Minnesota native attending the University of Colorado at Boulder. I'm a junior with an engineering physics and applied mathematics major, and I plan to pursue a career in scientific research. I enjoy salsa dancing and I am the president of CU's salsa dance club, where I teach dancing lessons. I also like reading Greek literature as well as watching many different kinds of cultural performances.
Elli Kapyla
I am an IAESTE (The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) biomedical engineering intern from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland and I will be spending a total of 12 weeks here at the University of Minnesota. I have one more year left to complete my Master of Science degree in Materials Engineering. I am majoring in Biomaterials and Materials Chemistry and I have a minor in Engineering Physics. In case you aren’t familiar with that part of the world, Finland is situated in northern Europe between Russia and Sweden and has about 5 million inhabitants. In am originally from this very small town called Uurainen in the central Finland. After graduating I am hoping to pursue a career in research and development or quality control in the field of medical engineering and perhaps start working towards a PhD. I enjoy simple things like watching tv, reading good books and hanging out with my friends. I have also recently started to do ballet and figure skating.
Ross Mielke
My name is Ross Mielke and I am a senior Mechanical Engineering student at South Dakota State University. I grew up on a farm in northeastern South Dakota. I hope to seek a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Some of my areas that I am interested in learning more about are fluid power and robotics. Some of my hobbies include wakeboarding, watching football, traveling, running, and just being outside. I am excited to both experience living in the Twin Cities and find out what graduate school and conducting university research is like.
Michael Roenbeck
A New Jersey native, I'm looking forward to a summer at the University of Minnesota (and my first time out of the Eastern Standard Time Zone.) I'm a sophomore mechanical engineering major at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. I really like roller coasters, which got me started on this mechanical track, but I'm always up for learning new things. Baseball, tennis, and ping-pong are just a few of my other interests. Here's hoping that this summer will not only be a lot of learning, but a lot of fun, too!
Courtney Shell
