Application Process

A complete application must include:

A. The two-page application.  The application form (pdf) may be downloaded.

B. A typed one-page Personal Narrative Statement which describes your interest in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program, your current goals, and the research areas listed on our website that most interest you.

C. A current school issued Transcript (official or unofficial) The transcript must include grades for Fall 2009 and courses in progress for Spring 2010.

D. A one-page resume (optional)

E. Recommendations from two faculty members who are familiar with your academic ability, research ability, ability to function independently, and your career goals. One letter may also come from another individual familiar with your work, in place of one from a faculty member. Ask the faculty members to return the recommendation to you in an envelope with their signatures written across the sealed flap; please include these recommendations with your application. A recommendation form (pdf) may be downloaded.

With the possible exception of the transcript, all materials should be one-sided without staples.

Application Deadline: February 19, 2010.

Eligibility:

The program is open to full-time college students who will have completed their sophomore or junior year by June 2010, and who expect to obtain their bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or related fields. Applicants are expected to have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. Women, underrepresented minorities, and students from colleges and universities without significant research opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply.
 

Financial Support:

Student participants will receive a weekly stipend, room and board for the entire 10 week program, summer membership to the University of Minnesota Recreation Center, and access to computer laboratories and libraries.
