Program Overview
The department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of
Minnesota is offering a ten week summer research program for undergraduates.
Student research projects are available in a variety of research
areas, including:
Student participants choose
a research project from one of these areas and work closely with
faculty and graduate students. Weekly lunch seminars and workshops
cover topics such as applying to graduate school, oral and written
communication skills, and ethics. Planned social activities (theater,
canoeing, and MN Twins baseball) highlight the cultural and outdoor
opportunities in the Twin Cities. Participants will receive a
stipend, travel expenses within the US, meals and dormitory housing,
and access to computer laboratories, libraries and recreational
facilities.
The program is designed for students who have
completed their sophomore or junior year in engineering (any specialty),
biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, math or related
fields. Women, underrepresented minorities, and students from
colleges and universities without significant research opportunities
are encouraged to apply. Applicants are expected to have a GPA
of 3.3 or higher and must be citizens or permanent residents of
the US or its possessions.
