Research

Research interests lie in the development of numerical prediction techniques for practical problems involving heat transfer and fluid flow. Work is concerned with creating and demonstrating widely applicable computational methods that are convenient and efficient. Physical understanding and insight into the flow and heat transfer phenomena are emphasized.

Past research has produced a variety of numerical techniques for problems arising in boundary layers, jets, buoyant flows, heat exchangers, steam generators, rotating machinery, and combustion chambers. Future research topics include the development of numerical methods for irregular geometries (as in ducts, rotating machinery, and heat exchangers), higher-order methods, flow and transfer processes in non-Newtonian systems, compressible flow, and laminar-to-turbulent transition on gas turbine blades.
