Research interests are in three areas: vibration and shock in machine and structural systems; creativity and innovation in design decision processes; and biomedical engineering. Research in vibration engineering includes the interaction of systems identification techniques with modal analysis to enhance the efficiency of testing and system model characterization. The role of damping in structural and isolator systems represents an additional research involvement.

The application of creative concepts and synectics to all phases of the design process - from problem definition through detailed design - is important to academia and industry.

Activity in biomedical engineering relates to systems modeling and implant design urology.
