Major interests are in the integration of sensors, intelligence, and motor control in order to both assist humans with the performance of complex tasks, and to provide machines and other systems with the flexibility and adaptability typically associated with human function.

Current research includes: (a) human centered control of vehicles, (b) driver assistive technologies, collision avoidance and other means for enhancing transportation safety, (c) human machine interfaces for the driver, and (d) emerging sensor technologies.

Presently developing systems to reduce lane departure, lane change, rear end and intersection crashes that result in road fatalities and serious injury. Also working on systems that help with lanekeeping for driving in narrow lanes.

Particularly interested in age related issues associated with teenage and older drivers.

The technologies that are being investigating include: high accuracy differential GPS, radar, LIDAR, RFID and other sensors, V2V and V2I wireless communications, lane-accurate digital maps, augmented conformal heads-up displays, virtual mirrors, haptic feedback and other types of human interfaces for driving under difficult situations.
