Concentrated energy devices enabled by wavelength selective mirrors


This project seeks a major advance in the development of hybrid solar photovoltaic thermal collectors or PV/T using a mirror film technology developed by 3M. The partners have conceived a number of configurations which promise to maximize the use of the entire solar spectrum for efficient conversion of solar radiation into electrical and thermal energy. An alternate but equally intriguing use of the mirror films for daylighting plus solar energy generation is envisioned for residential and commercial buildings. The objective of the project is to move from concepts to proof-of- concept product designs through predictive modeling and laboratory evaluation of the most promising concepts.
