Research > Composite manufacturing processes

The basic idea behind our research in process modeling for composite manufacturing is to (1) identify measures which indicate part quality and (2) relate process variables to these "quality indicators". The modeling approach follows a traditional, physics based approach. Time, temperature and pressure, the main process variables, can be related to part quality through conservation of mass, momentum and energy. Our research has focused on two high volume, commercially relevant, composite processes: wet filament winding and resin transfer molding.
