Aniruddha Bagchi
Aniruddha Bagchi is in the 1st year of the PhD program in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently working on developing optimal cryopreservation protocols for human embryonic stem cells. Prior to this, Aniruddha was a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, Atlanta and a Research Associate at General BioTechnology, LLC in Indianapolis. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Visveswaraiah Technological University, India and a Master's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington, both in Mechanical Engineering.
T. Brian Darr
Brian is the staff scientist in the lab. He has been with the lab since 1994. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University which he received in 1990. He is working on the cellular freezing project.
Katie Fleming Glass
Katie is a fifth year doctoral candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She is the recipient of a 3M Foundation Graduate Fellowship and is developing a numerical model for the efficient design of a microfluidic device for post thaw processing of cryopreserved hematopoietic cells. Katie received a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Youngstown State University in 2003.
Clara Mata
Clara received her Ph.D. degree in Fluid Mechanics from the University of Minnesota in 1998, and her B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela, in 1990. She worked as a Research Engineer/Specialist at PDVSA-Intevep, Venezuela, between 1990 and 2002. In 2006 she accepted a postdoctoral position in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. Clara has substantial experience studying and modeling fluids' behavior. She has studied and modeled the rheological behavior of heavy oil in water emulsions and drilling muds, self lubricated flow of bitumen froth, gas/liquid flow and particle transport by liquid and gas/liquid flows. She is currently conducting experimental studies of diffusion-based extraction of DMSO from cells using a microfluidic device.
Robert Yucha
Rob is a 1st year graduate student in the Biomedical Engineering Department, and working towards creating a functional cornea stroma tissue equivalent. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia, in 2007.
