Definitions

The most commonly used indirect cost rate is 52% MTDC, and should be used for budgeting purposes unless otherwise noted

MTDC = Modified Total Direct Costs:
Total direct costs minus equipment, graduate student tuition fringe, and the portion of each subcontract over $25,000

TDC = Total Direct Costs All direct costs of the project

NOTE:

*The P&A Salary Floors do not apply to job classifications assigned to salary ranges (I.e., salary range minimum and maximum) established as part of job family studies between 2009-2015 (e.g., Finance & Accounting, Communication, Information Technology, Legal, HR, Libraries & Museums, Campus Operations, Student Services, etc).

*The budgets submitted with the proposals are used to set up the funding if the project is awarded, therefore, it is prudent to be as specifiic as possible, to avoid future delays and rebudget requests. For example:

~Indicate whether travel is Domestic or International; indicate if Non-employee Travel is included

~Separate supply categories as appropriate: Lab supplies, Computer supplies, General supplies, (books, office supplies), Software, Postage/Mailing

~Separate service categories as appropriate: General Services (fees, photo services), Printing/Photocopying, Lab Services (ME Machine Shop, Physics Shop, IT Characterization Facility, etc.), Phone/Long Distance, Repairs/Maintenance

~EQUIPMENT/COMPUTER EQUIPMENT is defined as an item which costs $5,000 or more per unit. This MUST be listed in a separate category; if the item costs less than $5,000, it is categorized as noncapital equipment or supplies and is subject to IDC; the only exception is in the case of equipment fabrication
