Knowing how to modify an existing feature instead
of deleting it and starting from scratch can be a big time saver.
If you want to change something other than the value of a dimension, you
need to know how to redefine a feature. This command is available
in Part mode.
From Part mode, pick Feature, Redefine. Select the
feature you want to change from either the blue Pro/E window or from the
model tree. The feature create/redefine dialog box will appear.
Depending on the kind of feature, the box will show all feature attributes
such as sketch plane, direction, section, references, etc. Select
the item you want to change in the dialog box, then hit the dialog's Define
button. You will be prompted for each piece of info again, with
the current geometry being used for default values. Enter in only
what you want to change. Press Create or Preview in
the feature creation dialog to see the effect your changes had.
Many times you will want to change the shape or dimensions of the section.
If you select section from the dialog, you will be asked to choose
from Sketch Plane, Sketch, or Scheme. Use sketch
plane to change where the feature will start from. Use Scheme
if you like the shape of your section, and all you want to do is change
how it is dimensioned (the dimensioning scheme). Selecting Sketch
will place you back into sketcher, where you can add or delete lines,
dimensions, alignments, relations, or modify the values of existing dimensions
or relations. This is the proper mode to add new sketch relations,
such as sd5=720/6. Note: the s in sd5 denoted that the dimension was created
in a sketch. You may only add a relation to another dimension which is
also in the sketch (with a sd# notation). You can define relationships
in a polygon, for example, to allow the shape to resize properly by changing
only a single dimension.
