Pro/Engineer lets you define key shortcuts to commonly used operations. This allows you to, instead of using a sequence of menu selections, hit a key on the keyboard.
To create a shortcut, follow these steps:

  • Start Pro/Engineer. Retrieve a part, or create a new one.
  • Select the "Mapkey" menu item in the "Utilities" menu.
  • A small window will appear at the bottom right of your screen.
  • Click the "New" button in this window.
  • Type the shortcut you want to use ($F1, $F3, etc. for function keys, dtm or csp or fargleburble if you want to type more than one haracter), then hit return.
  • Perform the action you want to create a shortcut for. It could be creating datum planes, zooming, spinning a view, etc.
  • Before you start the sequence of events, press "Record".
  • When you've done the sequence of events you want to record, click the "OK" button.
  • Pro/E will then ask:

               Enter Configuration file name [config.pro]:

Hit return again to confirm this.

  • Pro/E will now save a file called config.pro in your current directory. As long as you start Pro/E from this directory in the future, the shortcuts you just created will be loaded.
  • To use your shortcut, either hit the function key or type the shortcut you defined. The sequence of steps you recorded will then be performed.
