ELECTROSTATIC SEPARATION
OF UNBURNED CARBON FROM FLY ASH FOR RECYCLING: LABORATORY TESTING TO INDUSTRIAL IMPLEMENTATION by Jae-Keun Lee, Wednesday, January 24, 2001 3:30-4:30 p.m. Room 108 ME Broadcast on UNITE Channel A Coffee and cookies will be available in 152 ME following the seminar
In this seminar a triboelectrostatic separation system for the removal of unburned carbon from coal fly ash for ash recycling can be explained from laboratory testing to industrial implementation. Fly ash from a coal-fired power plant is an accepted additive in concrete where it adds strength, sulfate resistance and reduced cost, provided acceptable levels of unburned carbon are maintained. Unfortunately, unburned carbon in coal fly ash absorbs some of other additives and reduces the concrete strength. This seminar describes to investigate the dry triboelectrostatic process to separate unburned carbon from coal fly ash into economically valuable products. The triboelectrostatic separation system showed the potential to be an effective method for removing unburned carbon from coal fly ash. Dr. Jae-Keun Lee is an associate professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Pusan National University in Korea. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1992 under the guidance of Prof. Benjamin Y.H. Liu. His research experiences include environmental thermal/fluid engineering, particle/power technology, air/indoor pollution control, air/liquid filtration, applied electrostatics, waste recycling, and contamination control. He has published 121 papers in these fields and applied for 41 patents on triboelectrostatic separation and disk technology. Also he has commercialized 20 products related to research experience. He previously worked at the LG Co. Ltd. in Korea for 6 years and developed a disk drive and a dot matrix printer. Informal Faculty Luncheon: Wednesday, January 24, 2001, 12:00 noon. A table is reserved at McCormick's Restaurant, Radisson Hotel Metrodome. Prof. Lee will be able to attend. |
