Abstract:

Engineering may be described as the main information and innovation source of a company. Product development requires clearly understanding, monitoring, and controlling all of the simultaneous activities associated with that development. Information management in engineering and product development is oftentimes chaotic, although it is acknowledged that this is due, in part, to its unique creative character. Therefore, a company needs dynamic project and process navigation support for every user. Dynamic support enables users to model tentative scenarios, to track actual scenarios, to react dynamically, and to evaluate tasks in order to process these tasks within given requirement, time, and cost frames. In this presentation, a system for dynamic process and project navigation will be shown. Aspects of modeling and evaluating processes will be addressed. Theoretical approaches in process optimization will also be considered.

Bio: Dr. Schabacker studied Mathematics and Computer Science at the University Mannheim from 1985-1994. He was Scientific Assistant to the chair of “Information Technologies in Mechanical Engineering” (Prof. Dr.-Ing. S. Vajna) from 1994-2000 at OvG-University Magdeburg. His PhD thesis topic, at Magdeburg, was: “Evaluation of Benefits of New Technologies in Product Development.” From 2001-2002, he was a Leader of Software Development in Dynamic Process Navigation at EPI-K AG. He served as a Consultant at proNavigate GmbH in 2003. He returned to OvG-University Magdeburg in December 2003 as a Chief Scientific Assistant.

Informal Faculty Luncheon: Wednesday, October 6, 2004, 12:00 noon. Meet in 1100 ME and walk to lunch with other faculty. Dr. Schabacker will be able to attend.
