Job Description: We are seeking innovative and creative candidates who possess the passion to make a difference. During this internship, the candidate will work on projects with the Process Development or Manufacturing Engineering Group. These groups are responsible for implementation of new products and processes and the continuous improvement of legacy processes already in production.

Specific Duties:

  • Implementation of design for manufacturability and lean manufacturing concepts
  • Ensure new product designs are efficiently transitioned into manufacturing, meeting all required engineering, manufacturing, and business measures.
  • Engage in basic tooling and fixture design for product lines
  • Process validation activities
  • Designing and executing DOE's
  • Collect and analyze data through the use of tools including Excel, Minitab, etc. Make conclusions and implement recommended changes
  • Assisting with documentation, test reports and ECOs
  • Position would work on project teams but require a high level of self accountability gaining exposure to both Research and Development and Manufacturing

The main project you'll be working on is getting SPC and data based decision making onto the floor. This will include:

1. Analyzing the processes to see where we can/ should collect data, (mitigating risk, reducing scrap, aiding in troubleshooting)

2. Finding ways to easily and cost effectively collect the data, (test procedures, possibly automated inspection, possibly automated data collection/ dumping).

3. Analyzing and actioning on the data, (developing action plans for knowing when something is out of control and applying corrective action).

Job Description
The engineer will be involved in extensive laboratory work on the electrical characterization of magnetic recording components for servo system integration on spin-stands. The candidate will be expected to perform experimental disc and head electrical evaluations including unique test development. In addition, the engineer will perform detailed analysis on the resulting data using a variety of analysis tools, including Matlab and Mini-tab or JMP. A portion of the job responsibilities also will involve porting code from one platform to another. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to this position.

Qualifications
Prior lab experience is required. Experience in a magnetic recording lab is preferred, but not required. Job applicants must be familiar with C and/or C++, Matlab, MS Office (including Excel and Powerpoint), and ideally a statistical analysis package such as Mini-tab or JMP. Experience with DSP coding and real-time operating systems is preferred.

This is an intern position supporting technology development and integration of servo tracking solutions for next generation of disk drives. Typical projects include development of algorithms for seeking and tracking control, development of drive testing tools, and statistical modeling of drive performance. We are seeking a summer intern candidate to work in the Pre-Cleanroom process areas. The intern will work closely with the Process Engineer to carry out the following tasks:

Job Description
This project would involve characterizing film material properties (hardness, modulus, toughness, and deposition stress). Additional characterization would be done to characterize the resultant material properties over the process window. Based on this characterization, materials would be chosen (extremes in deposition stress, hardness, and modulus) to quantify the change in film performance with changes in material properties.

Some of the tools we could use to perform this characterization include (but are not limited to) nanoindentation, SEM imaging, and Raman spectroscopy for chemical analysis. Careful application of the material characterization techniques will be needed for materials property quantification. The conventional application of these techniques may not be sufficient and may require refinement to perform the measurements of interest.

Job Description
The position is in the Air Bearing (AAB) Technology group. This group is responsible for modeling the system which keeps the read/write head of the disc drive flying less than 10 nm above the disc. The primary project will focus on the development of tools that enable the automation of data analysis routines typically done during design analysis and characterization. This tool will be written in Java, and will interact with our current simulation tools, written in FORTRAN and MATLAB. Based on the applicant's interest, there are additional software projects available, relating to the development of graphical interfaces for AAB design and mask submission.

Qualifications
Software programming, computer graphics, computational geometry. Good communication and teamwork skills are needed to collaborate with the AAB model group. Expertise in object-oriented programming, Java, CVS, and XML required.

Applicant should have java programming experience and a working understanding of FEM methodology. ANSYS experience would be a plus. Work with recording head design engineers to streamline the finite element modeling process for transducer devices. The candidate will program a software tool using java to support thermomechanical transducer design based on FEM modeling with ANSYS. The tool will be used to verify mesh functionality and quality and to make mesh attributes centrally available to improve the efficiency of the transducer and air bearing design processes.

Intern - Metrology Undergraduate-080548


Job Description
This position is for a summer intern to work in the Metrology Development group in the Seagate Recording Heads Transducer Development organization. In this assignment, the intern will develop MATLAB scripts to characterize and parametrize scanning electron microscope images. Metrics developed will be used for transducer process learning and control. The intern will work with metrology engineers to define the image parameters to be extracted and with IT engineers to implement the resulting scripts as part of a web-based automated process monitoring service.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will be high-performing students at the Bachelors undergraduate level in an engineering, physical sciences or mathematics discipline. Demonstrated competency in MATLAB programming is required. Knowledge of MATLAB signal/image processing toolboxes is considered a plus.
