Undergraduate Research in Mechanical Engineering

Postings for undergraduate research opportunities with Faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department will be posted here as they become available.

Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Research Award

The purpose of this award is to offer undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering an opportunity to attend an academic conference in the area of their choosing.

The anonymous donor was offered such an opportunity as an undergraduate student and strongly believes that it opened his eyes to all of the possibilities that his education could afford him. It also solidified his interest in the area that he ultimately ended up working in and this happened early in his academic career.

Usually students are not able to attend expensive conferences until they are graduate students or working in industry. Travel costs and registration fees will be covered for one student from each department. The award will be given annually.

To apply, students must submit a one page essay discussing how they will benefit from the experience and the conference they wish to attend, as well as the research area that they hope to learn more about.  After attending, the student will be asked to submit a one page summary of his/her experience. The application and the summary will be submitted to the donor, but the donor will not be involved in choosing recipients.

There is also a University program called "UROP" Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.
