TA EVALUATIONS

Every semester there is a commitment for TAs to be evaluated prior to the last day of classes. Because there are actually numerous types of evaluations every semester, this ofter leads to confusion. Always clarify with your instructor which evaluation you are discussing to avoid confusion. There are currently three evaluation types:

  1. TA Evaluation completed by students -- Departmental form
  2. TA Evaluation completed by Course Instructors -- Departmental form
  3. Instructor Evaluation completed by students -- University form

1. TA Evaluation Completed by Students

This evaluation is actually from the TA commitment list:

Commitment:  Be evaluated by the students of your course. Establish whether the professor or TA is handling this evaluation to ensure completion prior to the last day of classes.

About the Evaluation:
  • Evaluation is done in-class using the departmental form below. Paper forms are used since they result in a higher response rate by the students.
  • It is the TA's responsibility to make the necessary copies of evaluations to bring to class.
  • In class, you or your instructor should explain the purpose of the evaluation, distribute the form, and then you leave the room. Before leaving, appoint a student volunteer to collect the forms and bring to Miranda Miller in ME 1120. You should not see or touch the completed forms.
  • The compiled data goes in your graduate file. Compilation time varies. You may arrange with Miranda in ME 1120 to view the data.

2. TA Evaluation Completed by Course Instructors

Prior to the end of each semester, each TA should be evaluated by their course instructor. These departmental evaluations can be done either electronically or by paper form. Once completed, paper forms go to Miranda Miller in ME 1120. The compliled data goes in your graduate file.

3. Instructor Evaluations Completed by Students

These evaluations are required by the University and are not for teaching assistants. Talk to your instructor to establish what they want you to do (if anything). As with your TA eval, you should not see or touch the completed forms.

  • Evaluation is done in-class using the University form distributed by Miranda Miller in ME 1120.
  • In class, you or your instructor should explain the purpose of the evaluation, distribute the form, and then leave the room. Before leaving, the instructor should appoint a student volunteer to collect the forms and bring to Miranda Miller in ME 1120. TAs should not see or touch the completed forms.
