Financial Support for New Graduate Students
Three types of financial support are available for graduate students: fellowships, research assistantships (RAs) and teaching assistantships (TAs). In general these forms of support provide a regular stipend, waiver of all or part of tuition and fees, and a health insurance and benefit package. All students who apply by the December 15 deadline will automatically be considered, on a competititve basis, for pre-awards (i.e., awards offered in advance of a student's enrollment) of financial support, often through a combination of fellowship and assistantship. Students who enroll without a pre-award are still eligible for research and/or teaching assistantships, which can be obtained at any time during one's academic program. For further information see Research and Teaching Assistantships. International students should also contact the office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) for counseling, advising, financial aid, career and immigration status services.

Graduate Fellowships for Nanoparticle Research
*NEW* Design of Medical Devices Fellowships
Graduate students interested in research on medical devices are eligible for the "Design of Medical Devices (DMD) Fellowship" awards. Several DMD Fellowship awards are offered every year. Each DMD Fellowship award provides guaranteed financial support for one year, including both a stipend and full tuition. The first semester of support comes directly from the DMD Fellowship funds, while suport for the second semester and the summer are provided typically through Research Assistant positions offered by faculty in the department. A supplemental allowance of $3000 is also available for DMD awardees based on their choice of research projects (if their project is determined to be a medical device research project). DMD Fellowship awardees are chosen from among the applicants who indicate a strong interest in medical device research in their graduate school application. |
