Fellowships and Research Opportunities

Research Assistants
Research assistantships (RA) are typically gained from faculty members who hold research contracts and grants. These appointments usually materialize through direct discussions with individual faculty where the research assignment and required expertise and expectations are addressed. A faculty member may also offer research appointments to students prior to their arrival on campus. The faculty member providing support may expect to serve as your academic adviser and can be expected to indicate the length of the research appointment. Appointments vary, depending on the availability of grant funds and your progress. Communicate with the faculty member to update him/her on your needs and interests. Research appointments are made at any time in the calendar year depending on funding and other factors.

Graduate Fellowships for Nanoparticle Research

*NEW* Design of Medical Devices Fellowships
Graduate students interested in research on medical devices are eligible for the "Design of Medical Devices (DMD) Fellowship" awards. Several DMD Fellowship awards are offered every year. Each DMD Fellowship award provides guaranteed financial support for one year, including both a stipend and full tuition. The first semester of support comes directly from the DMD Fellowship funds, while suport for the second semester and the summer are provided typically through Research Assistant positions offered by faculty in the department. A supplemental allowance of $3000 is also available for DMD awardees based on their choice of research projects (if their project is determined to be a medical device research project). DMD Fellowship awardees are chosen from among the applicants who indicate a strong interest in medical device research in their graduate school application.
