A design report that documents your design proejct is due from each group at the end of the semester. The report is comprised of two volumes. Volume I contains the problem definition, a description of the design and how the design was evaluated. Volume II contains all of the supporting information for the project.
The following document describes the report contents and format:
How to Write a Design Report (PDF file). The document containing the requirements for the ME4054 report. |
In addition, you may want to look at the old design report requirements that were used prior to Spring 2009. While no longer in use, these requirements have useful information as well as links to old-style ME4054 report samples.
There are three assignments to deliver draft sections of the report, as well as delivering the completed report. See the schedule for due dates. Draft assignments are submitted to the course site a Word document (please upload as a Word 2003 document).
Upload a PDF version of Volume I and Volume II onto your site as two files. Name the files “KEYWORD-final-report-v1.pdf” and “KEYWORD-final-report-v2.pdf where “KEYWORD” is the lteam keyword title, for example “ORTHOSIS”.
Before converting from Word to PDF, compress all images in the Word file to keep the file size manageable.. (To compress, double-click on any image and select Compress... from the dialog box. Apply to all pictures and choose the Web/Screen resolution.)
Print one black and white copy of Volume I and Volume II and bring to the Design Show. A 3-ring binder for holding the report is fine. Avoid using a fancy binding.
Submit two copies of a CD containing your report. Hand one copy to your advisor and the other to the course staff. Both copies are submitted at the Design Show. The CD label should have the project name, the number semester and year of the course, for example "ME4054 Spring 2009", and the names of the student team.
Use this folder structure for the CD. The PDF version of Volume I and Volume II go in the home directory. In a folder titled "Report Source" place the original Word versions of Volume I and Volume II as well as any other files used to create the report. In a folder titled "Supporting Documents" include all other electronic documents related to the project, organized in sub-folders. Files include all Pro/E, ANSYS, Excel, Matlab source files, data from experiements, product data sheets, key patents from the patent search, and anything else you think is relevant. Err on the side of being comprehensive. While you are burning CDs, burn a copy for every team member.
