Introduction to Engineering

Welcome to Introduction to Engineering, the core required course for Lower Division students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. The purpose of this course is to provide beginning students with an introduction to the art, practice and excitement of mechanical engineering. Design and product dissection projects are used as vehicles to understand the disciplinary content of mechanical engineering. Students also learn the fundamentals of visual, oral and written communication, a core set of computer-aided engineering tools, prototyping basics, and other essential skills for successful, practicing engineers.
