Welcome to the website of the capstone senior design course in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. In this course, teams of four to six students work for one semester on an engineering design project sponsored by a local company or by a researcher at the University. Projects advisors are from the sponsoring companies or are University faculty or research staff. The semester culminates in the ME4054W Design Show where the teams display their work in a public forum and are evaluated by a jury of engineering professionals. The objective of the course is for students to learn a structured engineering design process and practice it by working on a real-world, open-ended design project. A second objective is to return value to the project sponsor through the delivery of a completed design and prototype.
