Strategic Planning

Strategic Plan 2009-2014 (pdf)

In order to effectively fulfill its mission and define its future direction, the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) initiated a strategic planning process to help ME enhance its teaching and research programs, develop stronger relationships with the corporate community, and create a strategic path to foster intellectual, scientific, and economic vitality. In developing a strategic plan, ME addresses some of the grand challenges facing humankind in the 21st century.

Task forces in the five areas of:

critically reviewed ME's strengths, identifed areas of strategic opportunities, and analyzed ME's need to become a premier department in its focus areas. Task forces were charged to broadly seek input from all stakeholders in the department.

ME invited stakeholders, including students, parents, alumni, industry and government leaders, to be involved in the process. During Spring 2009, ME provided multiple opportunities for stakeholders to learn about its research and education activities. The department continues to connect with and learn from its constituents.
